The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Transfusion Medicine laboratory, providing ongoing corporate support and enhancement of the composite performance of the key functions of the Transfusion Medicine Laboratory. The Transfusion Officer
- performs audits on the utilization of blood, blood products and blood alternatives for clinical services at [insert name of healthcare facility];
- provides feedback and education to patients/families, Transfusion Medicine staff, venipuncture staff, nurses, clinicians, surgeons and residents about blood and blood product utilization, blood conservation and alternative therapies;
- assists in the auditing of errors and accidents; assists in the preparation and presentation of educational and/or scientific data;
- assists in the design of studies;
- collects and analyses scientific data;
- ensures compliance with Health Canada National Blood Safety Standards and recommendations of the Krever Commission;
- and assesses on an ongoing basis, quality assurance and appropriate risk management strategies which allow for improved patient care.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, candidates will possess certification as a Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) (preferably an ART or Bachelor of Science degree) or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Professional registration as an MLT with the CMLTO or as a RN with the RNAO is desired.
You have developed comprehensive technical skills and knowledge with your minimum of three years experience in a hospital setting in either a nursing or laboratory setting, with specific background and experience in the area of Transfusion Medicine.
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication, decision making, written and verbal communication and problem solving skills, customer service orientation and ability to relate well to others are required.
You are able to communicate clearly, teach and organize. You demonstrate above average initiative and self-motivation.
Demonstrated ability in the development of management, supervisory skills or professional growth an asset.
The successful candidate will be a team player who is self- directed and adaptable to new technologies and processes.
Solid computer skills and knowledge of software applications is required.
Presentation skills are also a definite asset.
